A rewrite prompt must protect technical meaning

Rewriting technical text is risky because a smoother sentence can quietly change scope, certainty, or causality. The prompt should identify protected elements: numbers, versions, API names, negations, requirements, warnings, and uncertainty. Ask the model to preserve claims while improving clarity, then request a short change log listing any sentence whose meaning may have shifted. For high-risk documents, compare the original and rewrite sentence by sentence. A good rewrite prompt optimizes readability inside explicit boundaries. It should never ask for “more confident” language unless the evidence actually supports greater certainty.

A protected-term list is useful, but negation and uncertainty markers deserve separate checks because they can change meaning without changing terminology.

A change log generated by the same model is not independent verification; it is a review aid, not proof.

For critical documents, use a semantic diff plus a human reviewer who sees both versions side by side.
